What Is a Ductless Mini-Split?
A ductless mini-split is a compact air conditioning system with two main parts: a small outdoor unit and one or more indoor air handlers mounted on the wall or ceiling. A slim refrigerant line connects them through a small opening — no ductwork required. Each indoor unit cools its own "zone" independently, so you can keep the master bedroom at 72 while the guest room stays off entirely.
Because there's no ductwork, there's no duct leakage — and leaky ducts waste a surprising amount of energy in typical Florida homes. Mini-splits are also inherently efficient: inverter-driven compressors ramp up and down smoothly instead of slamming on and off like older central systems.
When a Mini-Split Is the Right Answer
- Home additions — extending ductwork to a new room is often expensive and compromises the existing system's balance. A mini-split cools the addition independently.
- Garages and workshops — Florida garages double as workshops and gyms. A mini-split makes them usable year-round.
- Hot or cold rooms — that one bedroom that's always 5 degrees warmer? Zone it separately instead of overcooling the whole house.
- Homes without ducts — older homes or converted spaces where installing full ductwork doesn't make sense.
- Sunrooms and enclosed patios — glass-heavy rooms with huge cooling loads that central systems struggle with.
Our Mini-Split Services
Installation
We can connect you with installers who help you choose the right capacity and configuration — single-zone for one room, or multi-zone with several indoor units on one outdoor condenser. Proper placement of indoor units matters enormously for comfort, and proper refrigerant line installation matters for longevity. They handle both, plus condensate drainage and electrical connections, and walk you through the remote or smart controls before leaving.
Repair
Mini-splits have their own failure patterns: communication errors between indoor and outdoor units, refrigerant leaks at flare connections, clogged condensate pumps, and sensor issues. Local pros diagnose and repair all major mini-split brands, and stock common parts for faster turnaround.
Maintenance
Mini-split indoor units have washable filters that need regular cleaning — neglected filters are the number one cause of poor performance technicians see. Maintenance visits clean filters, flush condensate lines, check refrigerant charge, and verify each zone is cooling evenly.
Considering a full-home solution? If your central system is aging, compare mini-split zoning against a full AC replacement — you'll get an honest take on which fits your home better.
